Minutes of Lunenburg Board of Trade Council Meeting
February 12, 2019 at LBoT boardroom
Present: Pamela Baltzer, Claude Baril, Ioan Ciente, Susan Corkum-Greek, Katherine Eisenhauer, Tim Lekhi, Lynne MacKay, Jamie Myra, Lorne Spence, Alicia Vandesande, Willie Wells, Eva Ziegler.
Regrets: Tim Reibling.
Call to Order: 8:13 am by President Tim Lekhi.
Motion:
To approve agenda as presented: – All in Favour.
Motion:
To approve minutes of the January 8 Board Meeting: – All in Favour.
Workload:
There is a lot of work to be done before we open the campground for the season, the Strategic Plan development for LBoT.
Motion:
To have 2 council meetings per month for the next 3 months; 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 5:00pm in the boardroom. - Passed.
Motion:
To address agenda items by priority – Passed.
Motion:
To approve 2019 budget including VIC and campground staffing and operating expenses.
(Budget) (Does not include infrastructure expenditures). Rev.- $250,000; Exp.- $255,000 - Passed
Strategic Planning
Motion:
To retain Plum Group as consultant and approve 50% payment – All in Favour
Motion:
To require at least 2 quotes for future expenditures exceeding $5,000. If this requires an amendment/addition to our bylaws, we will do so. – Passed.
Education:
Workplace Education Initiatives (Tim Lekhi
Second Business Skills class to start Feb. 25
Internet Marketing class starts March 1 (mornings)
Social Media class starts March 1 (afternoons)
Cluster Employment Meeting at LBoT boardroom; Feb. 14, 2-4pm
Grant Applications;
Federal – Canada Summer Jobs – 5 positions requested.
Provincial Student Summer Skills Incentive – 5 positions requested. (Should know by April)

Parkview Bursary:
Not this year. Will clarify and revisit next year.
NSCC:
Rural Innovation District Initiative. (Offer of assistance to rural businesses and facilitating organizations and committees)
Deferred:
Development of Zwicker Building to include conference / meeting space.
New Business:
Garth Turner has offered the use of space in his building (the former Bank of Montreal) in Lunenburg to groups (ie; LBoT).
Website:
Pamela and Rob have offered to build and maintain a new website for the Lunenburg Board of Trade (register: BoardofTrade.com). Projected annual cost: $300.
Motion:
To approve a letter dated February 12, 2019 from the Lunenburg Board of Trade to the Mayor and Council of the Town of Lunenburg to formally rescind two letters to Town Council dated May 2, 2017 and March 23, 2018. All in Favour.
Campground Committee Report:
Agenda Item 12 plus the following updates:
VIC building is OK except for drainage issues and inadequate window flashing.
Lockable service posts means twist lock plug receptacles
With our campground capacity, how many washrooms are we required to have?
FMA Meeting:
Friday, February 15 at the Fisheries Museum – Eventually moving the VIC to the waterfront in a permanent structure.
