Minutes of Lunenburg Board of Trade Council Meeting

April 9, 2019 at LBoT boardroom

Present:           Pamela Baltzer, Susan Corkum-Greek, Katherine Eisenhauer, Tim Lekhi, Lynne MacKay, Lorne Spence, Alicia Vandesande, Willie Wells, Eva Ziegler, Lorne Johanson (TIANS)

Call to Order:   5:05pm by Tim Lekhi

Motion: (WW)   To approve agenda as presented  – All in Favour.

Motion: (WW)   Approval of minutes of the March 26 Board Meeting:  – All in Favour.                             

Committee Reports:     TIANS ( LJ): TIANS update with Power Point presentation. Most of the information is from the tians.org website; mandate, programs, survey results, goals and events. (Events page still has 2018 dates.) Facebook page carries information about recent events. There is a link to LBoT page.

                                    Strategic Planning; (LM); Plum Group: 6 hour follow up session Saturday,  April 6 attended by 6 to be confirmed by email.   It was agreed to open up to all residents after the special meeting early in May. Not able to meet with Minister Ng.

                                    Campground (TL);(LS): Lorne has re-contacted contractors re: campground and VIC repairs and upgrades. Todd Rose would be interested in portions of it. Todd also offered to put us in touch with Steven Mossman, a colleague. Tim knows a contractor who may be able to to do current washroom renovations. Tim  will be attending an auction in Truro, April 12.

Motion: (LM)    To purchase at auction: up to 3 washroom and shower units at a maximum average price of $3,500 (total=$10,500). All in Favour.

Motion: (LM)    To have LBoT manage or supervise current washroom facility repairs and renovations aa required. All in Favour.

Motion: (LM)    To remove existing concrete stairs beside Blockhouse east side. Erect wooden staircase. Grade around building for drainage.  Move Hut. All in Favour.

Motion: (PB)     Blockhouse: To vent attic space (soffits), install adequate flashing around windows, paint downstairs. All in Favour

Personnel (JM);(AV):    Employee search has yielded 2 outstanding candidates.

Motion: (LM)    To have personnel committee hire them pending reference checks. All in Favour.

Correspondence:   1.   (TL) Grant Application for 16.5k submitted to Town of Lunenburg. 2.   Request for maps from Colette Tours rep; Bob Ripley. OK. 3.   Volunteer appreciation night; April 15. Tim Lekhi will attend. 4.   Tians 2019 AGM; May 14-15 in Cape Breton

Motion: (WW)   To have Tim Lekhi attend on behalf of LBoT. All in favour. 5.   Print ads: Yellow Pages? Saltscapes? Maine Boats? Greater Halifax Guide?

Motion: (KE)     To place an ad in the Greater Halifax Guide. For the others: Not this year. All in Favour.

New Business:             Motion: (LM)    To join Campground Association of Nova Scotia.  All in Favour.

Special Meeting:          Lunenburg School of the Arts; Wednesday, May 8 at 6pm Proposed changes in Bylaws (open to all members)

Topics:             Bylaws, Education, Strategic Planning, Campground, Personnel, Website,                                       Community Engagement (April 15)

Preparation:     Print copies of Bylaws for members and present them along with explanations of why we are doing this. This will prepare them to vote on the proposed changes at the 2019 AGM in the Fall. We need 75% of our members present for the vote to be binding, as per our Bylaws.                        

Motion: (EZ)     To introduce the new LBoT Website for members at the meeting on May 8
