Minutes of Lunenburg Board of Trade Council Meeting
5pm - October 1, 2019; at the LBoT Boardroom
Present: Pamela Baltzer, Claude Baril, Susan Corkum Greek, Katherine Eisenhauer, Tim Lekhi, Lynne MacKay. Jamie Myra, Tim Reibling, Lorne Spence, Alicia Van de Sande, Willie Wells, Eva Ziegler.
Call to order: 5:08pm by President Tim Lekhi.
Motion: (KE) To approve agenda and set adjournment for 7pm. - Passed
Motion: (WW) Approval of minutes of the August 13 Board meeting. (LM) – Passed
Business Arising: New lights on stairs installed. Lack of power to lights resolved. Lights working!
(SCG) – Communications Policy Draft (deferred from June Meeting)
New Business: Nomination Committee (PB): 2 Directors and 2 from members at large. Chair: Tim Reibling. Nominations from the floor are permitted at AGM.
LboT Membership Benefits Extension to clientele? (PB) No, employees only.
When do we revert to bi monthly Council Meetings? (TL)
Motion: (JM) To meet twice per month until AGM. (CB) – Passed
AGM preparation (TL): Venue – (EZ); Snacks – (KE); Agenda – (CB); Permit – (LM); A/V needs – (LS); Guest Speaker: Menna Riley? Don Bureau? Guest Speaker Accomodations – (TL); Guest Speaker, Breakfast – (KE).
Year Round Business/Tourism Initiative: Meeting for funding expertise. Lunenburg can offer more than lobster; (LAMP, Other dining experiences). Looking to hire MBA Grad. Start with steering committee.
Bike Friendly Business Program Info session (TL): (Deferred).
Anne Spence: MITACS RESEARCH COLLABORATION: (Deferred).
Matt Thompson: Placemaking 4G in partnership with Saint Mary’s University and ACOA.
Attracting Medical Physicians (TL): Government Funding Available; 11 physicians for Kentville with this program.
Cultural Action Plan (TL): Interview with Rebecca Cann. Facilitate: Strong round table discussion with all arts and culture and events community. Set up calendar through mutual consideration. Discussions for future ventures. Contact Foundation for the Arts (Sheila Woodcock)
Basil Oickle (Trot in Time) (TL): Facilitate Barn Raising Party October 12. Request for Interview from reporter Josh Healy (South Shore Breaker). Blue Cow Marketing (Shaun Whynot); GOFUNDME organizer.
Barack Obama Tickets (TL): Membership dues unchanged from last year. We have been given a pair of tickets to see Barack Obama in Halifax, Nov. 13.
Motion: (CB) To offer the tickets for a draw among members who submit their dues early. (LM) passed Current Board Members will be exempt from the draw.
Committees: Education: (6 week programs): HR Management. Includes topics: work ethic, communication, diversity, succession planning, working with millennials. Instructor: Rick McMullen if possible. Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Social Media Suite: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and management software with Zoran.
Education: (One day courses) Customer Service Course. Instructor: Ruth Ann. Staff attendance at courses (JM): Campground Manager and Administrative Coordinator
