Minutes of Lunenburg Board of Trade Council Meeting
5pm May 7; at the LBoT Boardroom
Present: Claude Baril, Pamela Baltzer, Susan Corkum-Greek, Tim Lekhi, Alicia VandeSande, Willie Wells, Eva Ziegler. Guests: Bill Towndrow, Renea Babineau.
Regrets: Lorne Spence, Eva Ziegler, Tim Reibling, Lynne MacKay
5:10pm: We were still short of a quorum, expecting a pair of late arrivals. Bill Towndrow was given the floor to present the report from the Governance Committee. Along with Senator Wilf Moore and Town Councilor Matt Risser, work has been proceeding with LBoT bylaw improvements. Their process; Review draft alterations, suggest improvements, pass it on to the other two for scrutiny, repeat. Several items were discussed, including Voting privileges, Expulsions and Accessibility of records. Bill will send the results of our discussions to the other members of the committee.
Call to order: 6:10pm by President Tim Lekhi as we now had a quorum (EZ, JM)
Motion: (CB) To approve agenda and set adjournment for 7pm. – All in Favour.
Motion: (EZ) Approval of minutes of the April 23 Board meeting. – All in Favour.
Business Arising: Cellphone and laptop for LBoT office (PB): (Deferred from last meeting). VIC Manager and Administrative Coordinator will use personal cellphones and be paid a monthly stipend for costs. (Action item)
Motion: (JM) To pay a $50 stipend for 2 cellphone plans; One for the VIC Manager and one for the Administrative assistant. – All in Favour.
Action Item: RBC; (deferred from last meeting). Claude needs figures for completed work and estimates for remaining work.
Local procurement: (deferred from last meeting). Do we have a policy? Is there a maximum percentage figure we are willing to pay to source goods and services locally?
Property Tax hike: Jamie will be meeting with Mayor Bailly to discuss tax increases and bottled water exemption for plastic ban.
Committee Reports:
VIC (LS): Self service kiosk for accommodation bookings, dinner reservations. (see Lorne’s email)
Motion: (JM) To budget up to $2000 for the purchase of a Dell computer, a Surface Pro and UPS for the VIC.- All in Favour.
Campground (TL): Found 3 leaks in water supply lines. Drainage and grading done around VIC. Sod to be laid today.
Action Item: Contact Nova Scotia Power: Add 2nd transformer to pole to accommodate added load for 50 amp service for large RVs.
TIANS grants: PB to ask Lorne Johanson to prod TIANS.
Poster for Open House.
New Business: (Events) Fireworks to be December 6. (makes Yuletide Festival a 2 weekend event)
Plastic-free Lunenburg bylaw (TL): see Property Tax Hike action item (Business Arising).
